  1. The Periodic Table of SEO Success Factors

This chart provides an overview of the factors that affect search engine rankings. It also explains the reasoning behind specific factors. You can learn a lot from studying it.

This is not a book or software, but a high-quality guide that shows you the architecture of SEO and what is currently working. The chart focuses on the core Google ranking factors and how to ensure that nothing catches you off-guard, even when Google rolls out another update.

When you understand that search engines reward web pages that combine ranking signals, you’re better equipped to manage those signals and see your pages gradually climb to the top of Google SERPs.

  1. Ubersuggest
Ubersuggest is a tool for competitor research and a lot more. It shows you the organic keywords that your competitors are ranking for, along with their corresponding search engine position.

If you want to cut through the noise, stand out, and speak directly to your customers, without losing them to other sites and blogs, you’ve got to conduct a competitive audit.
  1. Open Site Explorer
Moz’s Link Explorer is another SEO and SEM tool that can help you explore any site. You can use it to find link building opportunities and to find out where you’re being mentioned on the web.

Just plug in the URL for the site that you want to explore. Click the “search” button:

If you’re not sure about the anchor text used to link to your site, you can simply click the anchor tab in the top left corner. Your objective is to get more brand anchor texts and fewer exact keyword anchor texts.

  1. Quick Sprout
Quick Sprout is an SEM tool that’s designed to help both B2B and B2C marketers improve their search and social media traffic. It gives you insights into how you can get the best results from your marketing efforts. The tool also tells you your load time, page size, number of requests and speed score.

You can also use Quick Sprout to conduct social media, search engine and competitor analysis for specific URLs.

  1. Ahrefs:
Ahrefs is an SEO and marketing tool. It’s great if you want to know how to get more Google search traffic.

Ahrefs provides a range of information that tells you virtually everything that you need to know about your site, what you’re doing correctly and how to improve. Knowing exactly how your web pages are performing in the search engine is crucial if you want to reach your target customers.

With the Ahrefs site explorer you can:

Explore all of your links, when you enter your domain name in the box
Explore content, by inputting any keyword into the box
Effective online marketing requires gathering data about users, your site, keywords, competitors and the latest search engine developments. Without all of that data, it’d be difficult to improve your search rankings.

  1. Remove’em Ratios
Remove’em Ratios is a unique online marketing tool that predicts how many low-quality links and over-optimized anchor texts that you should remove if you’re experiencing issues with your ranking.

This tool enables you to identify your anchor text diversity and highlight the areas where you might have anchor text over-optimization. If you notice that you are over-optimized for specific search terms or keywords, you should consider modifying the anchor text of specific links, to focus more on your brand or remove links that are using that specific anchor text.

If you’ve experienced negative SEO, you can get your site back, by leveraging the insights from Remove’em.

With this tool, you can pinpoint the anchor texts and links that triggered a penalty. As soon as you get rid of them, you should see a boost in organic search traffic. With Remove’em, it’s easy to identify low-quality and harmful links and request changes from the webmasters.

  1. Pagespeed
Pagespeed tests your site for speed-related issues and tells you how to improve. It can help you make your site insanely fast. This is crucial because 47% of your customers will leave if a web page doesn’t load in 2 seconds or less. The tool also provides suggestions on how to fix some of these issues.

Site speed definitely has an impact on how well your web pages perform in the search engines. When you know what’s making your web pages load slowly, you’ll be able to fix them and, in the process, improve your search rankings.

Online marketing requires a deeper understanding of the user and what drives their decision making. You have to continually invest in learning about your user.

Thses are just a few of the online marketing resources out there. Any recommendations for content marketers? Comment below.

The Long Tail: Why the Future of Business is Selling Less of More
by Chris Anderson
the long tail

This isn’t an SEO book per-se but it’s essential reading for anyone doing online marketing. It’s best to explain this using an example. A lot of people search for “widgets”- a short-tailed phrase because it’s so broad. A significantly less number of people are looking for “blue widgets.” Even fewer are looking for “blue widgets with red toggles.” These are examples of long-tailed phrases. According to Anderson, while a lot of people might look for “widgets,” the sum of all the people looking for specific, long-tailed phrases about widgets (“blue widgets”, “blue widgets with red toggles,” etc) significantly outnumber the people looking for simply widgets.

Check out my post “What is Seo and Why It Matters?” to know more abut SEO.

So, how do businesses benefit from SEO? Here are the top reasons why it is crucial in digital marketing:

An effective SEO strategy would Improve the search engine ranking of your websites. This will generate the most impressions and clicks, leading to more website visitors, and ultimately, more conversions.
  2. ROI
SEO gives you the ability to track and quantify results. This allows you to see how your digital marketing efforts are doing and if any type of adjustments is needed. An SEO specialist can track which paths users take, down to the keywords that were used to make a search before an actual purchase was made. This information can help you see your ROI in comparison to your investment in your SEO efforts.
SEO is significantly more cost-effective compared to traditional marketing methods because you can specifically target the audience who are actively looking for your product or service online. The more defined your target consumers are, the more likely it is for you to achieve a successful marketing campaign.
SEO makes it easier for users and search engines to navigate your website because it rearranges your links and your site’s architecture, making it easier to find. This simplifies the process of finding information on your site and makes it easier for search engines to maneuver your site for relevant pages as well.
Getting your website on the top position in search engine pages means that it will ultimately get a high number of impressions or views. The more visible your site is, the higher in brand awareness your business will have. Reasons You Should Invest in an SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Specialist

There are a lot of reasons why you should invest in a Search Engine Optimization Specialist. An average person spends a whole day a week online and that makes the internet the world’s biggest and most competitive marketplace, and SEO is a critical marketing strategy to ensure your business gets seen by interested customers.

search engine optimzation marj medina image

You may already know that SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. But what does that mean?
SEO is the practice of optimising your online content so that it appears at the top of unpaid search results. However, SEO goes much deeper than just appearing in searches. Good SEO is a multifaceted strategy that can help advertise, build and sell your brand.

Here are the reasons why investing in SEO is money well spent.

Increased Website Traffic

Search engines are the best referrers you’ll ever get.

People do everything via search engines, and Google is by far the biggest with over 90% of the search engine market share. Everyone

If you a need a tradesman, you ask Google. When you’re looking for a new washing machine, you ask Google. If you want to book a hotel, you ask Google. Google is our faithful friend, who we trust to help solve most of our everyday problems.

As a business without investing in SEO, Google may not even know you exist – which means potential customers won’t be able to find you.

The second largest search engine is YouTube, which brings in a whole new area for optimisation. It’s not enough just to post a video and hope that it ranks. Compelling video content with a strong SEO foundation and strategic distribution strategy helps bring your brand to life and opens up another significant avenue to capture traffic.

With the right SEO techniques, search engines will deliver interested customers directly to your site without any costly advertising.

Better Quality Traffic

Google, with its complex algorithms, is a bit of a matchmaker. It wants to match potential buyers with potential sellers, and good SEO helps make this happen.

Optimisation isn’t about tricking search engines into displaying your site. It’s about letting search engines know exactly what your content is about so that it appears in front of the right people – people that are looking for businesses like yours. And you have a much better chance of selling to someone who is already interested.

What’s more, because 78% of people now own a smartphone, there’s been a significant rise in mobile searches. Google has responded to this by providing people with more localised results, which is great news for small businesses. This localisation will allow them to compete with much larger players, providing they have the right SEO in place to be found.

Optimising your site and content for a specific area (town, city or region), together with local citations, quality backlinks, and a strong Google My Business listing are critical if you want to be found at a local level.

And by ensuring users find relevant local businesses, search engines are ensuring you find relevant, local, and most importantly, interested customers.

Improved User Experience

Search Engine Optimization is a balance between optimising your content for search engines and for users (i.e. potential customers). Stuffing keywords all over the place is spammy and off-putting for visitors, and it makes it difficult to sell your business.

As Bill Gates said back in 1996, “content is king”, and good SEO is about producing quality, relevant content. So your site needs to include optimised content that not only reads well, but that sells, inspires, educates, and ultimately, gives people the necessary information to guide them through the buying process too.

To complete the positive user experience, this content needs to be presented in a cleverly-designed website that outwardly looks great, and is easy-to-navigate, quick-to-load and mobile-friendly, while inwardly being easy for search engines to crawl and list.

Content like optimised blog posts and videos are also great ways to add value for the user, and improve your rankings.

At the end of the day, a potential customer that has a positive experience on your site is much more likely to buy.

Increased Brand Awareness and Authority

They say you are what you eat, and that’s very true in the SEO world.

E-A-T stands for Expert, Authoritative and Trustworthy.

If your site displays these characteristics, search engines will prefer your website over others and rank you higher.

SEO strategy can be used to establish your EAT profile and get you seen as an authority in your field. This in turn, builds your brand too.

A good SEO strategy would involve tactics like maintaining strong social media profiles, posting informative blog articles, securing backlinks from authoritative sites and seeking online customer reviews. All of which help improve your authority.

And as your name appears in more places across the internet, people’s awareness of your brand increases, which isn’t just a short-term gain. You will reap the benefits of this ‘popular expert’ status for years to come in both ranking and brand equity.

Healthy Return on Investment

SEO is a cost-effective marketing tool. Recent research suggests that it yields the highest Return on Investment (ROI) for many businesses.

According to a recent survey by the Search Engine Journal, almost 50% of businesses said that organic search had the highest ROI, while less than 20% saw a good return on paid search.

SEO high ROIAnd although the return on some digital marketing strategies is short-term, SEO for organic search lays the foundations for returns over the long-term, even after the investment or campaign has ended. The increased traffic, positive user experience and authority status that SEO builds will help increase your sales long after your PPC advert has disappeared.

What is a typical ROI for Search Engine Optimization?

Based research, the following ROI for online marketing is fairly uniform, although can depend on the market/product but typically:

A ratio over 5:1 (5x) is considered strong for most businesses
10:1 (10x) ratio is exceptional.
Achieving a ratio higher than 10:1 ratio is possible, but it shouldn’t be the expectation.
At Solve we always aim to surpass typical ROI for SEO. In a few recorded cases, we have reached over 19x ROI!

Maintain a Competitive Edge

Appearing on the first page of the Search Engine Results Pages (SERP) is highly competitive. Research suggests that the top 3 listings get 40% of all click-throughs, so it pays to be on top.

SEO isn’t a new concept and some players are very well established online, meaning they top the ranks. Competing with these guys in the SERP can be tricky, and it gets harder every day. If you’re improving your ranking with SEO, the gap between them and you can only get wider.

Even at a local level, if you’re not investing in SEO, many of your competitors will be. As they climb the list, you’ll fall and you’ll have less chance of catching the click.

And it’s an ongoing process. With each new algorithm update, search engines strive to provide users with the best, most relevant content. Sites that don’t keep up to date with best practice will quickly lose their position.

Furthermore, good SEO requires extensive analysis of your competitors, the online marketplace and buyer behaviour. An SEO team is immersed in your brand, your customers and your competitors. This level of understanding is hugely beneficial and often brings new opportunities to light.

It Requires Expertise

Search Engine Optimization is constantly evolving as search engines actively try to weed out poor content and provide users with the best possible experience. These changing parameters and the many on/off-page factors contributing towards ranking, meaning it’s very difficult to keep up.

To ensure your optimum ranking, you need an SEO specialist with proven experience, who stays on top of the trends and employs the latest techniques.

What is SEO and Why it Matters?

What is SEO?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the process of increasing the visibility of a website through organic (non-paid) search engine results. It’s evolving over the years so that modern users can fully trust Google’s opinion in selecting information, according to requests.

The SEO process comprise of 2 parts. On-Page SEO involves all techniques that can be implemented on your website to improve your ranking in SERP while Off-Page refers to everything that can be done outside of your website to improve its visibility on the web.

There are 6 keys elements of a good SEO strategy:

On-page SEO

1. Content

The content of a website is the most important element of an effective search engine optimisation strategy. When assembling your website content, you should consider which information is essential for the customer. The length of a website’s content has importance for both search engines as well as the impact of your SEO, so we recommend to add text composed of a minimum of 300 words, but a good average for a page is best around 500 words. Keep in mind that the longer the content, the better, but try to keep your content interesting and relevant for your customers while avoiding repetitiveness.

2. Keywords

Keywords are terms users type into search engines such as Google to find a website. Use relevant keywords in order to be visible in the organic search engine results pages. Integrate your keywords in the title of your webpages as well as in the content of your website. It is preferable to integrate the keywords at the beginning of your text while assuring that the integration looks natural and fitting to your content.

3. Meta title and meta description

Meta title is the title published in the SERPs with a maximum of 55 characters to be displayed entirely in the SERPs. An effective meta title should include your 3 main keywords that are relevant to your businesses.

The meta description is the text displayed in the SERPs under the meta title. This description should contain a maximum of 150 characters and should also contain your 3 main keywords. The description must clearly outline your business to attract users to visit your site.

Off-page SEO

4. Backlinks

It is a well-known fact that word-of-mouth can be the best form of advertising for any business. This is exactly what backlinks are. However, maybe considered the trickiest part of SEO for requires outside sources to publish content about your business. The easiest way to encourage backlinks for your website is to create good content and publish interesting stories. Another effective method of securing backlinks is to contact relevant bloggers/websites directly that focus on your business area.

5. Social media

Social media is one of the best channels for businesses to interact with their customers and provide updates on any news from your business. It can be very useful in reaching specific targets as well as promoting products and services by posting interesting content such as images and videos.

6. Online directories

Online directories allow you to be visible on a variety of websites as well as gather reviews from your customers. A good online directory presence and positive customer reviews can bring many new customers to your business. It is important to also review and respond to negative reviews about your business as this can inevitably affect your brand image and deter customers from your website and/or services.

Why Does SEO Matter?

Here are some reasons why SEO is important?

Paid advertising, social media, and other online platforms can generate traffic to websites. However, the majority of online traffic is driven by search engines.

Organic search results cover more digital real estate, appear more credible to savvy searchers, and receive way more clicks than paid advertisements. For example, of all US searches, only ~2.8% of people click on paid advertisements.

In a nutshell: SEO has ~20X more traffic opportunity than PPC on both mobile and desktop.

SEO is also one of the only online marketing channels. When done correctly, it can continue to pay dividends over time. If you provide a solid piece of content that deserves to rank for the right keywords, your traffic can snowball over time, whereas advertising needs continuous funding to send traffic to your site.

Optimizing your site will help deliver better information to search engines so that your content can be properly indexed and displayed within search results.
